Kinja'd!!!

I have a family member who manages a apartment complex. There are some disgruntled former tenants and I think they've come back to pay revenge. Early this morning, some guys came in the laundry room and tried to break in all 5 of the washing/dryers. They tore apart the tumblers and locks. Thank you to GE and all the manufacturers that make all of this stuff, commercial washing machines are pretty damn tough.
Things have to deterred. I don't want to find a way to tear apart the mechanism/change box just to change out the box and then the next night, it's all ruined again.
What should we do? I'm thinking security cameras (including some hidden ones). But what else? There has been some suspicious nontenant people hanging around the parking lot recently. A police report is getting filed. So oppo, what suggestions do you have?
(Here's a land rover getting crushed. It reflects the feelings on this post.)

That will be done. Only the keys were with the tenants, but someone left the door open overnight. The tenants (new and old) are pretty good except for one, who was reportedly shaking one of the coin boxes.

Tell your local police of concerns. That and a security camera system helps a lot. There used to have drug dealers hang out at a business of mine, after I bought it I contacted the local police and set up a security system, within a month I had no more issues.

Security cameras are a good idea. Just make sure that you have proper signage and follow the local rules for such things. It'd be a total bummer to have the footage thrown out in court because of some stupid technicality.

Yeah, ok. A security camera system will be implemented quickly. I'm just worried about the former tenants...one came out of jail, and the others are a bunch of 20 so year olds.

I'll be seeing what camera laws locally and see what I can put and what ones aren't allowed.

Washroom? You go to the washroom in your washer and dryer?

Key Code locks my friend. Add security cameras and signs that say "SECURITY CAMERAS" and problem solved.

Take my advice, spend the extra on infrared cameras. Buy the nicest you can afford. I had a break in at my restaurant with only half the cameras being "night vision". They were perfectly useless and no use, the angles on the night-vision ones didn't catch anything. I redid the whole system the week after and that was a pretty penny.

Load a 12 gauge shotgun with rock salt modified ammo.

Wait in a hidden area until criminals arrive.

Once said criminals are engaged in their criminal activity use modified shotgun ammo to convince them to desist.

Non-lethal ammo as what the riot police would say. Beanbags to the balls (or stomach) and rock salt on the ass to finish them off. Surprisingly, the lock inside shattered with the force of a screwdriver. But it still held.

The beanbag to the balls would definitely be a show stopper.

I'd bet no further offense would be required after that, but the rock salt to the ass would be a good reminder for them.

That lock is evidently well made and can take a beating.

Hopefully you won't have to resort to any of the actions in our discussion, but being prepared for anything is always best. The security camera may pay off well by providing the authorities with some solid recognition evidence to use. A camera that covers the parking lot may also act as a good deterrent or at least provide more clues and info. Maybe just a sign telling people that the area is video monitored may work as well.

Best of luck to you.
